From the Frankfurt school to communication studies and media effects, from cybernetics to technics and discourse analysis, we will bring together a canon of texts that could be foundational for an academic discipline called "media theory."  We will ask what unifies or determines methodologies, contexts, and case studies. We will marvel at the number of media theorists who refuse to define "medium" in the first place.
