On the campus core was The Group Forum, a Greek-styled amphitheater built for plays, assemblies and concerts. Around the Forum in the first wedding ring was the Lecture Middle, some six buildings designed with large classrooms and lecture halls. The roofs of these buildings comprised The Great Court , a modern reimaging of the campus quad in granite and concrete that included four excedras that might be used for outdoor classes, smaller gatherings, learning or relaxing. Within the next engagement ring were the class room clusters anchored by two main student complexes, namely the Library (currently, Richard J. Daley Library) and the student union (Chicago Group Center, and currently, Student Middle East). Still farther from the guts were offices and laboratories, and on the farthest ring were the athletic fields.
