Hasan Ahmet Gokce received his BA, MA and Ph.D. (Turkish Philology and Literature) at Marmara University. He also received a double major degree in Theology. Before joining the University of Waterloo, Hasan was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow of Peace and Conflict Studies at the Conrad Grebel University College. Prior to that, he was a Turkish Language and Literature professor at the SSU in Istanbul for six years.

His research interest draws on Turkish&English language and literature, literary criticism, comparative literature, children’s literature and especially children's magazines. He taught a broad range of courses including Islamic Arts, Ottoman&Turkish Literature, Critical Reading, Literary Criticism, Children’s Literature, Oral Communication, and Written Expression. He has written several conference papers and journal articles, and over 50 books on these subjects.
