My current research involves the history of higher education in Appalachia at the turn of the 20th century, specifically how Northern and local philanthropy intersected and affected the institution and growth of academic libraries.
I'm currently an oral history librarian at the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky Libraries and am responsible for reference and instruction. I also served as interim associate dean for teaching, learning, and research at UK Libraries from 2016 to 2020 and have worked in reference services, access services, and management and administration in both academic and public libraries.
I'm the co-editor of Practical Academic Librarianship: The International Journal of the SLA Academic Division, co-editor of Libraries That Learn: Keys to Managing Organizational Knowledge (ALA Editions, 2019), and author of Knowledge Management: A Practical Guide for Librarians (Rowman & Littlefield, 2021). I hold a master’s degree in library science from Indiana University and a master’s degree in English from Murray State University.
