John Pell
As a librarian, I create research guides and provide reference and intruction at Hunter College. Some of the many bibliographies I have prepared during my reference duties may be found, loosely organized by topic, in the "Reference" folder of my Zotero library.
As a researcher, I am interested in how people recognize that they need information, set about retrieving information they need, learn from- or don’t learn from- information they retrieve, and apply that information within various social, legal and ethical contexts- a set of behaviors and related skills collectively known as information literacy. I am also interested in instructional design and pedagogy that helps develop skills, attitudes, and values that support information literacy and in the developing role of social networking in scholarly communication.
Most of my work is aimed at improving our understanding of how librarians can help students and faculty to learn through research. Citations for my presentations and publications are in the "Publications" folder in my library.
