Phivos-Angelos Kollias

Composer/Sound Artist Dr. Phivos-Angelos Kollias integrates emerging technologies & sonic narratives to examine the interplay between the human experience & its digital counterparts. Through diverse interactive mediums—such as classical instruments paired with interactive electronics, virtual reality music installations & video games—each project emphasises active listener engagement.

Kollias has a PhD in electroacoustic music from the University of Paris 8. He has studied classical music in Cambridge, London & Paris with the support of four prestigious foundations (Onassis, Megaron Athens Concert Hall, Leventis & Greek Composers Union) & currently lives in Berlin.

Kollias has received nine awards & nine nominations in international competitions, including the Excellence in Sound Design Award at the FIVARS Competition, Toronto, & one of the Musicworks Electronic Music Competition prizes. The group projects he has participated in have won twelve awards & distinctions, including the Apple TV Game of the Year award & the Gamescom Indie Award, & have been listed twice in Forbes' top lists.

His projects have been commissioned by various international institutions like ZKM (Karlsruhe), German Music Council, Musikfonds (Berlin), DELL (USA), IMPAKT (Utrecht)/Ars Electronica (Linz), Boston University (USA), Aubagne International Film Festival (France), Musiques d'un siècle (France), Ensemble Ipse (USA), Athens Concert Hall (Greece), Greek Composers Union (Greece).

His works have been performed by international ensembles & musicians in more than twenty countries worldwide in more than seventy concerts. His music scores are published by the Parisian publishing house BabelScores. He has given lectures about music at international conferences such as Xenakis Colloquium (London), Europe-China Cultural Forum vol.1 & 2 (Brussels & Beijing), EMS (Paris/Leicester), SMC (Berlin), etc.
