Lela Mosemghvdlishvili

My intellectual path thus far:

I was instructed in communication science as an undergraduate student at the University of Amsterdam, and had an affinity with social studies of technology.

However, during my PhD, I moved more towards the critical paradigm, and in particular discovered work of Andrew Feenberg (the Critical theory of Technology). This led me to explore the Frankfurt school, and political-economy (in its orthodox form, like reading Marx, and its critique).

Even though I feel indebted to Marxism (as a warranted critique of our current economic system and labour organization), issues such as power, identity, and how those are maintained led me to search further and brought to the field of 'discursivity'. I have spent past three years into learning different forms of discourse analysis (in a pretty solitary manner by reading into it) and have come to feel familiar with its different forms (DT, CDA, CA). However, in terms of its analytical depth and (counterintuitive to many) its empirical rigor, I associate myself with the poststructuralist theory of discourse.

Currently, I am further exploring Discourse Theory and work on its application to studying politics in its broader sense. Along with it, I am getting curious with the 'speculative turn' and am just starting to tap into 'new materialism'.
