Prior to pursuing sociology at the graduate level, I obtained a B.Eng (First Class) degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Madras.

My primary research focuses on social and demographic transformations in Asia, examining demographic responses to social, political, and economic changes. My particular geographical interests lie in South and Southeast Asia, where I examine social and demographic aspects related to marriage and divorce, families and households, and ageing. My work has been featured in prominent population and demographic journals, including Population and Development Review, Demographic Research, Population, and Social Science & Medicine.
