Education

2014: Habilitation in Psychology (Academic authorization to teach the subject of psychology), University of Tübingen. Topic: "Perceiving beyond the cut: Processes of reorientation and spatial updating following scene rotations".

2007: Promotion (Dr. rer. nat.) in Psychology, University of Tübingen. Title: "Varbalizing dynamic scenes" (German: "Verbalisierungsprozesse bei dynamischen Szenen"; Grading: "summa cum laude").

2003: Diplom-Psychologe (Dipl.-Psych., eqivalent to a Master's degree in psychology), University of Tübingen (Grading: "sehr gut"), Title: "Die Interaktion von Medium und Aufgabentyp: Der Einfluss nonverbaler Signale in kollaborativen virtuellen Umgebungen". (English: "The interaction of medium and task type: the influence of nonverbal cues in collaborative virtual environments.").

2002: Vordiplom Informatik (equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science), University of Tübingen.

1998 to 2003: Studied psychology, mathematics, and computer science at the University of Tübingen with internships at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering in Stuttgart and at MTO in Tübingen.

Scientific activities

2024: Visiting professor at the Institute of Cognitive Science, University of Colorado Boulder, Boulder, CO, USA.

Since 2020: W3-Professor of Applied Cognitive Psychology at the University of Tübingen as well as Head of the Perception and Action Lab at Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien (IWM) in Tübingen.

2017 to 2019: Head of the Research Infrastructures Department (incl. library, statistics, and programming teams) at the German Institute for Adult Education, Leibniz Centre for Lifelong Learning e.V. in Bonn.

2010 to 2017: Junior Professor of Cognitive Psychology at the Department of Psychology, University of Tübingen. Positive evaluation in 2013, successful final evaluation in 2016. 

2008: Visiting scholar at the Dynamic Cognition Lab with Jeffrey M. Zacks, PhD at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, USA.

2004 to 2010: Research assistant (PhD student and postdoc) in the research group of Prof. Dr. Stephan Schwan at the Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien in Tübingen.

2018: Top Paper Award of the Information Systems Division of the International Communication Association (ICA).
