PEDRO LUIZ DE FREITAS
Soil scientist by formation, graduated in Agronomy (1975) from the School of Agriculture « Luiz de Queiroz »/USP, M.Sc. in Hydrology from IPH/UFRGS, Ph.D. in Agronomy (Soil Science) from Cornell University, Ithaca NY (1988), and post-doc at IRD, Montpellier, France. For the last 4.5 decades, an agricultural researcher in the National Soil Research Center of Embrapa (Brazilian Enterprise for Agricultural Research) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with emphasis in Soil and Water Sustainable Management and Conservation in the Tropics with enphasis en Conservation Agriculture principles application. Experience in the effects of land use and cover changes, conservation systems of agricultural production, Zero Tillage Conservation Agriculture (ZT/CA), integration Crop-Livestock-Forestry management systems (iCLP-CA), land reclamation and recovery, integrated planning in watersheds, mechanized production of sugarcane, and, soil teaching. Currently engaged in agricultural research activities in Embrapa Soils in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) towards the sustainability of sugarcane production integrated with annual crops for food and biofuel production, sustainable use and management of light textured tropical soils, low carbon emission agriculture monitoring as well as in soil teaching in fundamental level and soil science in undergraduate and graduate courses.
